Sosua

Down

The town of Sosua, located on the northern coast between the city of Puerto Plata and the village of Cabarete, was founded in 1938 by order of Dominican dictator Rafael Leonidas Trujillo to welcome 500 Jewish refugees from World War II. The Jewish community has made a significant contribution to Sosua’s economic growth, introducing the dairy and meat industries, which still remain important economic drivers in the area.

With one of the most beautiful beaches, not only in the Dominican Republic but also in the Caribbean, Sosua has become one of the top tourist destinations on the northern coast of the Dominican Republic.

Sosúa is a dreamy town that showcased its natural charm and unparalleled hospitality with the arrival of the Jewish community to its shores, embracing them with its land, vibrant colors, and nature.

Every year, the Multicultural Gastronomic Festival is held, organized by Sosúa’s Municipal Unit of Community Heritage (UMPC). It was created with the vision of highlighting the cultural diversity that exists in this municipality.
