Luperon

Down

A municipality of great historical significance in the New World, Luperón is located on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, in a magnificent bay that provided Admiral Christopher Columbus shelter from the typical storms of the area. He named it “Puerto de Gracias” or “Gracia” because it was the place where he sought refuge to save his fleet.

The bay of Luperón has traditionally been considered a key spot for world sailing and Atlantic navigation routes due to its unique physiographic features that ensure effective protection during meteorological events. It is regarded as the safest natural refuge for adventurers in this part of the world.

Renowned for its beautiful beaches, including the extensive Playa Dorada, which is surrounded by resorts and an 18-hole golf course. The historic center of the city, dating back to the colonial era, is characterized by the imposing presence of the San Felipe Fortress, a 16th-century Spanish construction that now houses a collection of historical and military artifacts.
