CABARETE

Is a mall enchanted and relaxed beach village located only 20 minutes (about 11 miles/18km) away from the Puerto Plata International Airport on the northern shore of the Dominican Republic. It was founded in 1835 by Zephaniah Kingsley (as part of their heritage Mayorasgo Koka), along with his family of mixed race and 53 slaves who have been freed from their plantations in Florida at the time that the island “La Hispaniola” was still under Haitian rule. Anna Kingsley owned a house in the port that stretched to the sea. Several Kingsleys descendants of former slaves are still now living in this area.

Located between a bay and a lagoon, Cabarete is well known for its charming ambience and combination of relaxed and adventurous lifestyles. Its daytime cafe scene, nighttime club scene, and huge, windswept beaches that have made it a world capital for kite surfing, as well as a popular place for windsurfing and traditional surfing, making it the favorite site for professional kite competitions (for example, "World Cup" and "Master of the Ocean" http://www.masteroftheocean.com/), an elite international sporting event that combine the practice of surfing, windsurfing, kite boarding and paddle boarding. Playa Encuentro (3 miles west) is considered as one of the most popular surf beaches in the Caribbean.

The golden beaches and turquoise waters of Cabarete Bay provide the ideal setting for water sports enthusiasts who want to windsurf or kite-surf, or for those visitors who just want to relax and enjoy a vacation with their family.
