Los Hidalgos

Down

Its name originates from Christopher Columbus as “Pasos de los Hidalgos,” in honor of the people who accompanied him on his first expedition into the country’s interior in March of 1494.

This town is known under the brand “Land of the Amapolas,” paying tribute to the beautiful plants that can be found throughout the area.

This route between La Isabela and Fort Santo Tomás de Jánico was traveled by the Admiral on his second voyage.

Every year in April, the Amapola Fair is held, inspired by the romantic significance attributed to this flower, including declarations of love, wedding ceremonies, and vow renewals. According to a fable, a woman who is unlucky in love only needs to sit on an amapola flower, and her luck will change.
