Guananico

Down

This is one of the youngest towns, and its name is associated with Cacique Guacanagarix, who ruled the chiefdom of Marién when the Spanish arrived.

You can see mountains with diverse vegetation and several rivers and streams. This town has a special place called Rincón Caliente, known as the birthplace of traditional merengue, which is played with a güira, tambora, and accordion. Over the years, renowned traditional merengue musicians have emerged from this area, many even from the same family, including Facundo Peña, Nicol Peña, and Rafelito Román, among others.
